About the class
Have you opened a book in te reo Māori, tried to read the first page, got overwhelmed and stopped? If so, this course is for you!
Over eight weeks you will start the journey of reading te reo Māori books aimed at native speakers with confidence. We begin with a novel aimed at young teens to practise reading with easier grammar and vocabulary. In the latter part of the course we step into adult-level material and learn to deal with more complex grammar structures and vocabulary.
Through this course we will:
- Develop tolerance for ambiguity and learn to cope with not understanding every word or grammar structure.
- Learn strategies for guessing meaning
- Recognize recurring grammar structures
