About the class

Te Korekore, Te Pō, Te Ao Mārama: The Māori Creation Story as a Map for Becoming

Before there was light, there was Te Korekore—the realm of pure potential, where nothing had yet taken form.

Then came Te Pō: the darkness, the pressing, the struggle, the long unknown.

And from that darkness emerged Te Ao Mārama—the world of light, form, and understanding.

This is the Māori Creation Story.

In this wānanga, Marian Ruri (Mazz), founder of Ko Au and a PhD candidate at the University of Waikato researching this cosmological process, will explore Te Korekore, Te Pō, and Te Ao Mārama as a living framework for transformation—not simply a story from the past.
