About the class
The word 'wairua' is translated as 'spirit' or 'soul'. It is the spirit of a person and exists beyond death. From a Māori perspective, wairua is part of the tinana (body). It is belived that during dreams the wairua leaves the body. It then returns before the person awakens. Beliefs about wairua vary from iwi (tribe) to iwi. Join us to find out more!
This workshop will cover teaching on the following topics:
- What is wairua?
- The body from a Te Ao Māori perspective
- The significance of wairua in Te Ao Māori
- Wairua & dreams
- Connecting with tūpuna (ancestors) through dreams
- There will also be an opportunity to engage in discussion with our Learn Māori Abroad community
We are so excited to have special guest artist and Learn Māori Abroad student, Moana Eve Ruwhiu, joining us to create a piece of art during the workshop. Moana will be painting an image LIVE throughout the wānanga (workshop) based on the kōrero (talk) that is shared.
