About the class

The word 'wairua' is translated as 'spirit' or 'soul'.  It is the spirit of a person and exists beyond death. From a Māori perspective, wairua is part of the tinana (body). It is belived that during dreams the wairua leaves the body.  It then returns before the person awakens. Beliefs about wairua vary from iwi (tribe) to iwi. Join us to find out more!

This workshop will cover teaching on the following topics:

  • What is wairua?

  • The body from a Te Ao Māori perspective

  • The significance of wairua in Te Ao Māori

  • Wairua & dreams
